Tennesseans for Choice held its annual meeting on Saturday, March 15 at 7:30 pm at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Church on the corner of the O.R. Turnpike and the east end of Robertsville Road (near the high school). As many of you know, our current president of the board and "the force" behind TFC, Elizabeth Peele, is stepping down from her leadership position this spring. At this critical juncture in TFC's history, this meeting will present options concerning the future role of TFC. Future options being considered by the board include: (1) attempting to maintain our current level of activism by energizing the current membership and recruiting new, energetic members; (2) continuing our current activities, but a lower level of activity; (3) broadening our scope of focus areas and forming partnerships with related organizations.
In addition to refreshments and entertainment, the program will include brief talks on (a) public changes in attitude, (b) legal issues, (c) "Families First," (d) partial birth abortions, (e) international family planning, and (f) access to clinics. Liz Peele will follow with her final president's address on the "State of Tennessean's for Choice." This will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity for members to indicate their preferences. This will be your principal opportunity to express your views concerning the future of TFC.
One highlight of our Choice Celebration in January 1996 was a panel discussion by choice pioneers featuring Dr. Etna Palmer. Following the celebration, TFC asked Joan-Ellen Zucker to capture on video tape Dr. Palmer's experiences with abortion in the "bad old days." Copies of the resulting videotaped interview can be purchased from Joan-Ellen (483-7221) for $20.
